I took the decision to trial some motion capture (MoCap) early on as it is an untested method. It is an involved process that requires a considerable investment of time in calibration. The Xsense Moven inertial sensor capture suit is very good system as it allows natural un-hindered movement. I will be using this more in my subsequent project. For this project though it was unfeasible to create fully acted scenes within the time scale so I opted for a method of using library data mixed in with manual key frame animation. There are many ways of dealing with the MoCap data. But the method that gave the best control was to extract skeletons with the keyed animation ‘baked’ in, and use these skeletons to drive the rigged skeletons.
